Welcome to ZestERS - The Exercise Referral Scheme for Brighton and Hove
How it all began...
With over 13 years experience in the exercise referral arena, Zest People have seen programmes from every angle. We saw an opportunity in Brighton and Hove to work alongside Brighton and Hove Primary Care Trust to develop an exercise referral programme for the residents of Brighton.
The programme began as a pilot in October 2006 with 10 GP practices and a small number of diverse activity providers. Following a successful review, we were able to work with the PCT to ensure funding through till March 2010. In 2008 the programme completed an audit for Choosing Health and we were thrilled to receive a 'green light' based on the evidence and growth that we were able to show.
Since then we have recently been re-commisioned by NHS Brighton and Hove to deliver the service until 2013. This is remarkable and thanks go to all our supporting partners and organisations.
What is ZestERS?
ZestERS is designed to initiate long-term lifestyle changes with a programme of supported physical activity options for residents of Brighton and Hove.
Who can access the scheme?
If you are a resident of Brighton and Hove and are at risk of chronic disease, with two or more existing medical conditions, are currently inactive and/or have recently undergone rehabilitation from Physiotherapy, you may be able to get a referral.
Who will advise and support me to get active?
Specially trained instructors (REPs Level 3 in Exercise Referral) understand what exercises are safe and effective for a range of medical conditions. They will support you on your road to fitness.
How long can I access the scheme for?
A one-off period of 3 months.
How much does it cost?
ZestERS is highly subsidised by NHS Brighton and Hove. The cost varies between our activity providers and will depend on the activity you choose to participate in.
How do I get a referral?
Start a discussion with your GP, Practice Nurse or other Healthcare Professional about becoming active. If it is agreed that the scheme would benefit you and you meet the inclusion criteria then your Healthcare Professional will submit a referral to the ZestERS team.
The drop down menu below provides further information about the ZestERS activity choices available in Brighton and Hove or alternatively please call us on 01903 660070 (Option 1).
